Marvel Comics has once again joined forces with Universal Music to incorporate some of their trademark characters onto super-hero inspired takes of classic hip-hop collector’s album covers. The covers bring together comic lovers and hip-hop heads, and highlights the heroic aspects of the two distinct fandoms.
The vinyl superhero editions of the albums were first rolled out in 2015. When asked about the project, Universal Music CEO expressed:
“Marvel comics have always occupied a special place in the hearts of hip-hop fans – both media continue to serve as source of expression, escapism and inspiration for generations of super fans around the world.”
The products are being carried by the brand name store, Urban Legends. Andre Torres, the vice president and urban catalog head of the brand, similarly acknowledges the overlap in comic and hip-hop’s fans:
“There is an undeniable heroism that consistently runs through the veins of both art forms and I’m excited to help weave these iconic narratives together in a way that celebrates their art and introduces new fans to their genius.”
Each of the collector’s units will be capped at the sale of 3,000 units, and can be optionally purchased as a deluxe version. The deluxe version will include a double colored vinyl and a copy of the cover’s corresponding, limited-edition comic book.
