Previously on “The Breaks,” we left with a hot new haircut from Nikki, which also kicked her style up a bit (how cute was her outfit in ep.7, She scored a new job at her mom’s “stuck in the suburbs’-esque job, Fouray scored a visit to the hospital from an overdose and DeeVee scored a beat down.
I usually save my personal highlights for the end of the recap but I had to let this be known: The DeeVee and Damita ship has SAILED! Yep, that’s right the two who we’ve–erm I, but I’m sure more viewers have been waiting to become an item, finally are. It was like watching fireworks from a balcony when they kissed, followed by some other things that weren’t showed so they won’t be mentioned. The point is, two of the best characters (IMO) are together and we should all be happy about it. On another spectrum of Damita’s ‘journalist-mommy, pretty much a super-woman life,’ she scored a cover story interview with “Pop That,” rapper Luther Campbell, aka Uncle Luke. Long story short, it took a complete left turn when she called him out on degrading women, which his response to her allegations was careless enough for her to politely but boldly tell him he doesn’t deserve the cover. There’s a lot of power in that little lady’s body that sometimes I’m shocked at how capable she is. The thing I appreciate about Damita’s character, though, is she has a balance between caring about her job and also standing her ground under any circumstance, no matter who you have to read.
Guess who’s back-back-back, back again, Imani X is back and you better tell a friend. It’s a breath of fresh air seeing Teyana Taylor make a recurring appearance on the show. Imani’s confident attitude and dope sound adds a positive edge to all the craziness. But that doesn’t mean she’s too clear of the drama, being as just when Fouray, who’s running low on bread due to his previous lawsuits is finally able to get her in the studio (after taking the last resort of calling his father for money), she gets another offer on the table from EBJ Records boss lady, Maddie Taylor. It wasn’t all Taylor’s game though, we already know Nikki ‘the finesse queen,’ had a play in it after Taylor offered her a position as an A&R if she could get Imani on board. Guess the heels and office cubicles weren’t Nikki’s style, I mean it’s only been a week and homegirl is already lowkey scheming her way back into the Hip-Hop industry. Anyway, if anything, whatever route Imani takes she’ll be a success, even if it backfires on Fouray, who now wants to sign Vanilla Ice or Nikki who just wants a piece of everything. I know one thing for sure, Imani is dope and I just want to take the time to thank ‘The Breaks,’ casting director for bringing rapper Dave East on the show as Imani’s Featured Artist during her performance. He even had a few lines beside his rap, what a sight for sore eyes that hopefully we get to see recurring as well.
Now, currently on The Sopranos or should I say the mixed-up, violent life of DeeVee, Ahm and Bad News Bear, Scooby, DeeVee got a visit from the detective who constructed the lineup where the witness Scooby killed, denied all of the suspects. The detective suggests DeeVee let him help him stay out of contact with Scooby, believing that his life’s in danger which we know, Scooby wouldn’t have a problem with ending.
DeeVee even considers his dad’s pitch to stay with his aunt down south for a while, which from the looks of it doesn’t seem like a pretty bad idea. But DeeVee gets in the car with Scooby and his sidekick for a ride along was more-so a “let me drive you around and scare you into not giving the cops an ability to try and protect Ahm. ‘It was literally like watching the uber ride from hell.’ I mean Scooby even waited outside for DeeVee as he did his shift at the radio station, although that ended badly. DeeVee’s dad also waited and DeeVee was torn in between to the two, until deciding to run away from Scooby and to his dad’s car but interrupted by being arrested. And scene.
Well on the bright side, let’s remember DeeVee and Damita are a thing and he was able to play Ahm’s tape on the radio for the first time which actually, Ahm may not be too happy about now that I think about it. Ahm did let Maisha, his juvie friend/mentor Scooby’s girl, hear his music. It seems he’s a bit more light-hearted to the manner when it’s toward people he trusts, but even for Scooby he doesn’t want his music on the radio, which Maisha tries to convince him is his one-way ticket out of his current conditions. Conditions such as messing around with girls who set you up and gets you involved in a massive shootout almost costing you your life. Can Ahm just like, I don’t know, stay indoors eating leftover Chinese and working on his music? Oh how things would be so much easier.
