The tragic mass shooting at a Walmart Supercenter in El Paso, Texas earlier this month left dozens injured and claimed 22 innocent lives. This event caused various celebrities to share their grievances, particularly hitting home for singer and songwriter Khalid, who claims El Paso as his adopted hometown.
Shortly after the terrorist attack, Khalid tweeted:
“Over the past few days, my mind and heart have been heavy. Hearing/seeing an act of terrorism happen so close to home, my family, and my friends has been unbelievable and shocking.”
Khalid also announced a benefit concert, which will raise proceeds for the victims of the shooting, as well as their families, through the El Paso Shooting Victims’ Fund and the El Paso Community Foundation. The concert will take place on September 1st at the Dan Haskins Center. Tickets went on sale this morning (8/14) at 10am MDT. In a statement, Khalid shared:
“I have been rocked to the core by the horrific act of gun violence that came to El Paso, and by the continued acts of senseless violence that our country faces daily. I want to give back to my community of El Paso, the city of the 915, who has given so much to me. Please come out and let’s heal together through music while raising money to help those who need it.”
