A verdict has been reached in the ongoing assault case which involved A$AP Rocky and two members of his entourage. The incident occurred back in July, and was recorded by bystanders, as well as Rocky himself. Videos of him tossing a man, as well as first hand Instagram videos in which Rocky claimed that he was being followed and harassed by two men, went viral.
After the incident blew up, A$AP Rocky was incarcerated for 3 weeks in a Swedish prison, before being allowed to leave earlier this month in light of a set trial date. Today, Rocky’s verdict has been announced, and he has been found guilty on the count of assault.
Luckily, Rocky, despite being found guilty, will not have to serve any more jail time. However, according to on site reporter Maddy Savage, he will have to pay a fine of SEK 12,500, which equates to about $1,303. The punishment was decided as such because a key element in the trial, Rocky’s use of a bottle in the assault, was unable to be proven. The court released a statement saying:
“The assault has not been of such a serious nature that a prison sentence must be chosen. The defendants are therefore sentenced to conditional sentences.”
Rocky had reiterated in the trial earlier this month that his actions were solely out of self defense, an assertion that seems to be supported by the videos he posted on Instagram of what preceded the assault. Regarding the verdict, A$AP Rocky shared:
“I AM OF COURSE DISAPPOINTED BY TODAY’S VERDICT. I WANT TO SAY THANKS AGAIN TO ALL OF MY FANS, FRIENDS, AND EVERYONE WHO SHOWED ME LOVE DURING THIS DIFFICULT TIME. IMMA KEEP MOVING FORWARD.”
In spite of all of the legal troubles, A$AP Rocky made his return to the stage this past weekend in Anaheim, California for the first annual Real Street Festival. He featured several special guests, including Tyler, the Creator, YG, and A$AP Ferg.
