Over the weekend Kanye West released two new singles, “Lift Yourself”, and “Ye vs. the People” feat. T.I. Each song is a reactionary piece to the backlash he’s faced since his recent tirades on the internet. On Wednesday morning, T.I. made a visit to Power 105.1 The Breakfast Club, where hosts Charlamagne Tha God, DJ Envy, and Angela Yee opened the discussion about Kanye West. “Ye vs. the People” took the two artists 45 minutes to complete, the fastest T.I. has worked on a single track.
The artists met back up in passing after a long hiatus of contact- in recent weeks Kanye West has taken a stance of supporting President Donald Trump, blasting his rhetoric of “free thinking” on Twitter. The track plays into this with T.I. speaking or the People while Ye defends his stance. T.I. goes on to explain that West believes that by wearing the “Make America Great Again” hat that he could repurpose the meaning and create a better America of free thought. In the weeks to come, the world will surely see if Kanye’s crusade will be helpful or hurtful to the people he’s trying to speak to.
