Schoolboy Q, fresh off of the release of his latest single “Chopstix” featuring Travis Scott, sat down with Real 92.3 to discuss his forthcoming music, interests outside of hip-hop, and his feelings on the tragic passing of Nipsey Hussle.
The release of “Chopstix” was actually delayed. Schoolboy initially planned to release it on 4/1, but postponed it after the murder of Nipsey. He took to Instagram saying:
“Y’all got the game f****d up if y’all think I’m trying to put out music tomorrow. I’m not putting out no music tomorrow. It’s not cool. t’s not pure. That’s not me.”
In his recent interview, he shares that it was a loss for him as much as it was for the entire hip-hop community. Schoolboy stated:
“That heavy, you know what I mean? It real real real heavy… it’s a sad for a dude that did so much. But you know what I mean, he’s legendary man. Legendary.”
After getting past this portion of the conversation, Schoolboy also shared some things about himself as a person, including his love for golf, and the fact that he and Kendrick Lamar once performed for an audience of 9 people in Detroit. Schoolboy is gearing up to release his fifth studio project, of which “Chopstix” is the second single, following “Numb Numb Juice.” The forthcoming project will be Schoolboy’s first LP release since his 2016 project ‘Blank Face LP.’
