The legacy of Aretha Franklin was honored this past weekend on CBS’s “Aretha! A Grammy Celebration for the Queen of Soul” special, which aired on Sunday (3/10). Various artists took to the stage in the concert to honor the legendary American singer and songwriter, who passed away in August of last year.
One of the most impressive performances of the night was a duet between Alicia Keys and SZA. The pair performed various iconic songs. Alicia opened the performance with the classic “Spirit in the Dark,” and then added vocals and played piano to SZA’s rendition of “Day Dreaming.” The two then came together to perform “You’re All I Need to Get By.” The duet was the perfect way to honor the Queen of Soul.
Artists including Celine Dione, Jennifer Hudson, John Legend, Fantasia and Alessia Cara also took the stage at the star-studded event. Other performances of the night included H.E.R.’s rendition of “I Say a Little Prayer,” Chloe X Halle singing ““Sisters Are Doin’ It for Themselves,” and Jennifer Hudson’s opening medley of ““Ain’t No Way,” “Respect,” and “Think.” The special closed off with an epic performance of “Natural Woman” by Fantasia, Andra Day, Brandi Carlile, and Alessia Cara.
