Khalid releases his latest project, an EP entitled ‘Suncity.’ The seven track EP was announced last week, and features the same soulful sounds that Khalid fans enjoyed on his 2017 debut album ‘American Teen.’ ‘Suncity’ is the first project released by Khalid since his debut, and was inspired by a recent visit he made to his hometown “Sun City,” or El Paso, Texas.
The album includes an intro entitled “9.13,” which announces Khalid over the audio of a cheering crowd and celebrates him as a native of El Paso. Mid-way through the album there is also an interlude, “Salem’s Interlude,” a smooth melody that includes a monologue describing trepidations, which the listener can assume are a reflection of Khalid’s fears. The melodic tunes allow each song to flow into the next, almost effortlessly.
The lyrics and harmonies on the album all suggest that it emerged from a passionate place for Khalid. When asked about the emotional significance that the project had for him, he answered:
“More than anything in life right now I want growth. I want my music to grow and represent how I am growing up. Suncity is the start of a new era for me, this music poured out of me and I didn’t want to wait to share it. I wanted to be able to live in this moment with my fans and my friends and speak from the heart.”
Khalid is currently working on his sophomore project, which is expected early in 2019. In the mean time, stream Khalid’s EP ‘Suncity’ below!
