BET has a new show underway entitled American Soul, inspired by the life of Don Cornelius. Cornelius was the creator and host of the classic show Soul Train, which aired from 1971 to 2006. BET has released the official trailer for the show, which is set to air in February of 2019.
Don Cornelius will be played by Sinqua Walls. The series hopes to capture Cornelius’s entrepreneurial rise, the spirit of the cast and musicians on the show during its initial rise in the early 70’s, and the impact that Soul Train had on black culture in America.
The cast will feature Kelly Rolland, Gladys Knight, and Kelly Price, as well as Jason Dirden, Iantha Richardson, Christopher Jefferson, Katlyn Nichol, and Jelani Winston. The 10-episode series is being executively produced by Jesse Collins and Jonathan Prince.
