Congratulations are in order. The Weeknd has recently accomplished a feat that put him in company with some of the greatest artists of all time, including The Beatles, Biggie Smalls, and 2Pac. Almost exactly four years after the release of his 2015 hit single, “The Hills,” it has been officially certified Diamond status by the RIAA.
The Diamond certification is awarded after a single or album has moved over 10 million units and is one of the highest honors an artist can receive from the RIAA. The Weeknd is one of only 23 artists in history to achieve Diamond status.
“The Hills” is a single from his Grammy-award winning sophomore project, ‘Beauty Behind the Madness.’ The single sat at the top of the Billboard 100 Chart for six weeks, and was noted as one of the biggest tracks of its release year.
This news comes just a few weeks after The Weeknd reportedly deleted his Instagram account, sparking speculation that a new album will be arriving soon. His last project release came in March of 2018 with the EP ‘My Dear Melancholy,’. This past March The Weeknd confirmed via Twitter that “Chapter 6 is getting cooked.” Though no release date has been confirmed yet, it is safe to say that the King of the Fall will be dropping before the end of this year.
