This week, platinum-selling singer-songwriter Normani has earned her first #1 as a solo artist as “Love Lies” with Khalid has earned the #1 spot at Top 40 Radio in the US, according to Mediabase, and #1 on the Billboard Mainstream Top 40 airplay chart. The song has also been certified 2x platinum by the RIAA. Released earlier this year, the song has continued to gain momentum since its release, climbing not only the charts at Top 40 radio, but also Billboard’s Hot 100 chart (#11), and amassing over 603 million streams. Upon release, Rolling Stone declared it “a slinky, R&B single” and Billboard raved, “the romantically curious lyrics perfectly complement Normani’s smooth vocals.
Following the release of “Love Lies,” Normani made her solo television debut on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in April, when she and Khalid performed the song on television for the first time. In May, Normani joined Khalid on stage at the 2018 Billboard Music Awards to perform their smash single. Following her performance, Noisey raved “Normani made last night’s Billboard Music Awards her own,” Buzzfeed declared “Normani slayed the entire 2018 Billboard Music Awards,” and in a feature following her performance this summer, The FADER emphasized, “Normani has that kind of star power.”
In addition to “Love Lies,” Normani recently teamed up with Jessie Reyez and Kehlani for a remix of Reyez’s single “Body Count.” Complex described the song as “a catchy girl power anthem that finds each singer owning their sexuality and independence without any apologies.”
Normani is currently in the studio working on her debut solo album.
