Fresh off the stage of Coachella aka Beychella, Beyonce announced a $100,000 Homecoming Scholars Awards Program, she aimed to give $25,000 through her BeyGOOD foundation to four qualified students from HBCU schools –––Tuskegee University, Wilberforce University, Xavier University and Bethune-Cookman University. Google.org has now joined in matching her donation to include four more students from different HBCUs.
“Google understands the vital role historically black colleges and universities play in delivering a high quality and culturally responsive education,” said Maab Ibrahim, a program manager at Google.org. “In the last several years, Google has launched innovative programs to close the distance between Silicon Valley and HBCUs; we are proud to continue that commitment by matching Beyoncé’s generous donation.”
“Partnering with organizations like Google.org in support of HBCUs is our way of elevating cultural touchstones that paint a clear picture of excellence and opportunity through diverse education,” said Ivy McGregor, Director of Philanthropy and Corporate Relations at Parkwood Entertainment.
One student from each school will be recognized with $25,000 towards their 2018-2019 school year from Texas Southern University, Fisk University, Grambling State University, and Morehouse College.
