Discussing his going independent, his inspiration behind “Asbestos” featuring Frass and the people he wants to work with next, one thing that is clear is that Young Spray is not slowing down anytime soon. His revealed to Love This Track that his next album will be released sometime before the end of the year.
On how Young Spray got his name: Well basically, obviously I was young at the time, people used to call me Spray before as like a street name and it followed me in prison. I went to do music, to change into a rapper like a rap name instead of a road name and my friends call me Spray On, so it just turned from spray On to Young Spray. I used to like to spray things.
On how Young Spray got started in rap: It started in prison where I had a lot of time on my hands, it started off with poetry, then one of my friends sent me a CD with beats on it. I realized I could spit over the beats. When I came out I used to rap to myself and one of my friends overheard me and was like we need to go studio. It kind of just started like that.
On his most underrated project: So I can’t say the most underrated. Maybe Hard to Kill or RTM 3. Even this one, a few projects I have just thrown out there. I don’t know if this it’s the case of them being underrated or if it is just that not enough people have heard them.
On wanting to make it in America: I would love to make it in America. Obviously, as an artist, you need to care about making it at home first. I travel a lot so my brain is bigger than England. I want to make it everywhere. I want to make it everywhere like Stormzy-mode, Skepta Mode. I don’t even mind conquering America first. I just need to get over there and do some big collabs like with Uncle Murda or someone.
