Love This Track had the opportunity to be in attendance and interview up & coming rapper Jazz Anderson, at BET’s Music Matters event August 9th. BET Music was presenting The Showcase hosted by Scottie Beam & Rodney Rikai, which was a platform for 5 fresh artists creating a lot of attention in the hip-hop world to perform and “showcase” their pieces.
The line up included rapper Steve Gunna, D-Will, Cashflow Harlem, and of course Jazz Anderson. The headliner was Cardi B, from the show Love And Hip Hop Atlanta.
Jazz was second after Steve Gunna. For a young 20-year-old, her presence carried the soul of a strong woman. The lively energy she brought to the crowd was engaging, pumping up the audience for the couple of songs she was going to showcase. When an artist is comfortable on stage, you feel it radiate. Speaking to the crowd as if they were personal friends of hers, pouring her heart out through her intellectual lyrics, Jazz owned that stage.
Jazz performed three songs all together. She told young stories of her past, the first song speaking the hardships of being in love at just 15 years old. The second quite personal, explaining not having a relationship with her father but having that strong bond with her mother and the advice she’s taken. The last track she performed was her debut single “All I Want” which came out earlier this year. The upbeat powerhouse single got the crowd bouncing with her, enjoying her creative strength and gift to bust out raps with effortless timing. Love This Track asked Jazz what the inspiration for this single. Down below, you can find the answer to that question!
Overall, her performance was great. It’s inspiring to see young fresh talent work their way up in the industry. It’s not an easy thing to do, especially making a name for yourself as a female rapper, a world that is dominated by men. You can tell Jazz enjoyed being on stage just as much as the audience enjoyed watching her.
After her performance, we had the wonderful opportunity to meet with Jazz and ask some questions about her start in the industry, her songwriting, her mom, reality tv star Tami Roman, and future projects. There is even a little surprise at the end of the interview!
