We have all been anxiously awaiting the release of the Disney classic, The Lion King, in all of it’s live action glory. The anticipation heightened when the movie’s cast was revealed to feature an all-star cast comprised of Beyoncé, Donald Glover, Seth Rogan, Keegan-Michael Key, Alfre Woodard, John Oliver, and many more celebrities.
Today, Beyoncé unveiled ‘The Lion King: The Gift,’ a full length album that is separate from the film’s soundtrack. The album featured Kendrick Lamar and Jay-Z, as well as several interludes from the movie’s characters, including Timon, Pumba, Nala, Simba, Scar, and more.
Bey calls the album “a love letter to Africa” and attempts to bring the motherland’s culture to life with her iconic vocals. Its release comes just days after she premiered the inspired music video for the album’s single “Spirit.”
Though Bey’s album does not feature the movie’s classic tracks such as “I Just Can’t Wait To Be King” and “Can You Feel The Love Tonight,” they can be heard on the movie’s official soundtrack.
