“Bigz”, “Bigz, The Flygerian”, and now officially known as “Mr. Bigz”, is a rapper and producer out of London, U.K. and provides proof that hip-hop has found ways to extend and thrive outside the gates of the United States.
Bigz made his entrance into the industry in 2004 and released a number of mixtapes since his launch into the game, such as Star Man in 2010 and Quantum Leap in 2011. Leading up to his most recent projects, Mr. Bigz released The Bigz Bang Theory where he displays his rhyming ability over a variety of different sounds.
Anywhere from hard hitting kicks and snares with resonant background vocals, to a techno/dubstep-ish influenced sound are all featured on this mixtape.
Mr. Bigz really captivated the UK hip-hop scene with My Funked Up Soul and S.U.M.M.E.R.. These two 2014 releases showed the increasing capabilities of Mr. Bigz as a dynamic artist and producer. In these two projects, Mr. Bigz was able to explore and create new sounds that came together beautifully on S.U.M.M.E.R. and My Funked Up Soul. My Funked Up Soul, which was mainly produced by Turkish Dcypha (who is one of six members of the UK production collective) and Mr. Bigz, offers what the title entails—that being a rich soulful vibe accompanied by playful rhymes and witticisms by the man himself. Mr. Bigz’s most recent commercial release, S.U.M.M.E.R. offers a similar upbeat, soulful vibe with considerable, but not overwhelming instrumentals and
vocals. The album has a number of features, with guest appearances from New Orleans rapper J Warner to UK’s very own Wretch 32. With the success of his 2014 projects, UK’s hip-hop scene and his growing fan base in the U.S. wait to see what he has planned for this year.
