Jared Ethan Higgins, the Chicago MC better known as Juice WRLD, has broken through the ranks of the SoundCloud community and found himself a home on the Billboard Top 100. Beginning to make music back in 2015 as a freshman in high school under the name JuicetheKidd, Higgins recorded many of his first tracks on his cellphone. After about a year, Higgins decided to switch his stage name to Juice WRLD as he claimed it represents “taking over the world.”
Juice WRLD began to take his music career more seriously after he joined the rap collective Internet Money Records. All the while working with his current producer Nick Mira, Higgins dropped his debut EP, 9 9 9 which included his breakout hit Lucid Dreams. This track gained enormous popularity among the hip-hop community, catching attention of artists like Southside and Lil Uzi Vert. Soon after, Juice WRLD dropped his second EP, Nothings Different, which featured another breakout, All Girls Are The Same.
Numerous music blogs picked up on the fast growing popularity of Juice WRLD, with Chicago based blog Lyrical Lemonade taking the lead on creating a music video for All Girls Are The Same. Once this video was released, Interscope Records offered Higgins a sign on deal for $3,000,000 which he accepted. In May 2018, Lucid Dreams had a wider studio release stemming from Higgins’s new label which put him in the Billboard Top 100 and kept him there for months. Alongside his debt on the Top 100 in May, Higgins also put out his first studio album, Goodbye & Good Riddance, which was also well received. The track Wasted featuring Lil Uzi Vert was later added to the album, debuting at 67 on the Billboard Top 100.
Since Higgin’s debut studio album, big name rappers have begun to pick up Juice to be featured on their tracks. Most recently, Higgins was featured on Travis Scott’s No Bystanders off his acclaimed album Astroworld. Higgins also released a mixtape in October 2018 titled Wrld on Drugs with Future.
The 20 year old rapper has a bright future in the rap industry, currently sitting on a net worth of 3 million dollars. His unique flow and nods to other genres like emo and rock sets him apart from other rappers on the come up. It’s rumored that Juice will be releasing music in 2019 with artists including Post Malone, Ski Mask The Slump God, and The Chainsmokers.
