The next sensation coming out of Atlanta, Georgia, is the viral hip-hop artist known as Rod Da God. His viral sound and personality have been making major waves, spreading across radio stations both in and around Atlanta. Requests for Rod’s music continue to busy the phone lines and maintain heavy demand, continuing to fuel his popularity fire. Now, after much hard work and dedication, Rod Da God is on the brink of making it big and is the next artist to look out for.
Native to Atlanta, Jerrod Thompson has been a trend-setter in his city’s music scene, rapidly gathering a following while accumulating multiple hit songs. His upbeat and sharp music keeps in-line with his character, as he looks to hip-hop moguls Drake and Will Smith for inspiration. These legends are not only to blame for his unique flow and style, but Rod also goes by “The Fresh Prince of ATL”, a nod to Will Smith’s notable nickname, “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air”. After releasing music on SoundCloud for quite some time, we now see Rod Da God beginning to graduate to higher levels. Rod now takes off with his two lead singles “Fairytale” and “Conversations.”
Rod’s debut single, “Fairytale” collected over 6 million plays on Soundcloud, over 6 million views on the lyric-only YouTube video, as well as 200,000+ views on the brand-new music video. As astounding as this is, his plays and views only continue to grow. With his brilliant marketing technique, Rod has managed to draw hype and attention to his brand on social media with his #FairytaleDayChallenge, with thousands of teens participated nationwide. During a string of shows down South, he posted multiple videos on Instagram of him tearing down stages and electrifying crowds as he performs his rapidly growing song. With over 3,000 Instagram posts and tags in less than 30 minutes, Rod proves the undeniable, growing demand for himself and his music.
Despite the upbeat sounding production of “Fairytale”, the lyrics tell a deeper story about an internal conflict happening within Rod. We hear him dive deep into his feelings on this track, as he admits to mistakes he has made that have put him in a low place. “And although that wasn’t right, now I’m on my own.” Throughout the song, Rod prays that what has happened is not a fairytale, and that he will soon be able to redeem himself and salvage what is left of his relationship with his loved one.
Although “Fairytale” was a huge milestone for the rapper, that is not the only success he has had recently. Another track with steadily increasing popularity by the Southern rapper is “Conversation”. This song features hip-hop artists DJ Luke Nasty and Bobbi Storm, on top of A1 production by DJ Toomp. Within this cut, a similar struggle can be heard as in “Fairytale”. Except in “Conversations”, Rod takes action and expresses that something needs to be done. “I think we need to have this conversation” Rod repeats on the hook, explaining to his lover that they need to have a deep conversation about all that is going on between them and their relationship.
With major success within the last few years, Rod Da God shows no sign of slowing down. Rod plots on only accelerating his rise to the top, with major plans in development to follow the success of his breakout single, “Fairytale”. Rod remains focused on expanding his talents and expanding his fan base. His latest single, “Conversation” was introduced through the Distribution company “Empire” which has been known to work with platinum-selling artists Kendrick Lamar, D.R.A.M, Young Dolph, and many others. Rod Da God’s highly anticipated project is scheduled to release in 2017, as he teams up with Mr. Hanky, Mercy Beatz, and Bolo Da Producer to assistance him in creating his newest body of work. It is clear that there much more to come from Rod Da God, as his future shines brightly.
