The long-awaited, highly-anticipated, second studio album by the producer Swizz Beatz is finally here. The album ‘Poison’ released yesterday (Nov. 2nd) and serves as Swizz’s first album release in over a decade! His debut album ‘One Man Band,’ released back in 2007, and fans have been on the edge of their seats for 11 years awaiting more Swizz content.
Fans have been kept at bay these past few months, as Swizz has released various singles from the album, along with music videos to accompany each. He began releasing singles from the album back in mid-September with the release of “Pistol On My Side (P.O.M.S)” featuring Lil Wayne. He has since released various tracks, the most recent of which was “Come Again” featuring Giggs, which released about a week ago.
Swizz Beatz features a star-studded line up for his sophomore project. In addition to Wayne and Giggs, Swizz features Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole, Jim Jones, 2 Chainz, Young Thug, Pusha T, Nas, French Montana, and Aine Zion. His wife, Alicia Keys, was also featured playing the piano on his track “P.O.M.S”. He also features various co-producers on the album, including AraabMUZIK, Gian “Genius” Bravo, and BINK!. J. Cole is also featured as one of the executive producers of the project. Swizz explains that this was sort of happened by accident in an interview with The Fader:
“We were playing each other music, and then we started talking about things other than our projects, books, different things,” he said. “I was playing him songs from the album—before I had all these different sonic elements to the album, before separating them into four boxes. What I played you guys, where it stopped, he was like, ‘That’s the record. The other records you’re playing me, they’re huge, but I don’t think you need it.’ Why shouldn’t he get that credit when he brought so many gems to the table? My generation needs to learn how to get along with the new generation anyways.”
Swizz’s sophomore project definitely did not disappoint. The brief 10-track album packs the punch of a much longer album. The lyrical and production skills alike featured on the LP are characteristic of the Grammy-winning producer.
