Just in time for Christmas, 21 Savage has given us something to be cheerful for. Savage has finally released his highly-anticipated album ‘i am > i was’ this past Friday (12/21). The album was originally announced via Savage’s Twitter, in which he posted a mysterious date blocked out by question marks. The tweet was posted in early October, and fans have been anxiously awaiting his project since then.
‘i am > i was’ serves as a follow up to 21 Savage’s ‘Without Warning,’ which released last year. The album starts off with a straightforward track that sifts through a few different scenarios of things he’s done “a lot” of. The opening track features another winning feature verse from none other than J. Cole. Savage’s story telling on the track, followed by Cole’s genuine and masterful flow, makes for quite the opening to the album.
In addition to Cole, the album features Childish Gambino, Post Malone, Schoolboy Q, Offset, Lil Baby, Gunna, Project Pat, Young Nudy, and of course, the City Girls. After all of the collaborations Savage has done over this year, it is only right for his album to have a star studded tracklist. The album is typical 21 Savage flows, with a slightly higher level of maturity. The growth in the rapper’s style, content, and flow are evident, and demonstrate that his involvement, and evolution, on the hip-hop scene are not going anywhere.
