Brandy Makes A Glorious Return With Long Awaited ‘b7’ Album
The angelic voiced singer, Brandy brings listeners a side of herself, we’ve never heard before with her highly anticipated seventh album, ‘b7‘. And if you weren’t a fan of the infamous Brandy before, once you here this album, you will be. The 15-track album contains songs such as, ‘Unconditional Oceans‘ and ‘Rather Be‘ which remind fans of a mixture of ‘Full Moon‘, ‘Afrodisiac‘ and the classic ‘Never Say Never‘.
But don’t be mistaken, on ‘b7‘, Brandy hits notes fans never expected, which displays her true growth over the years. Tracks like ‘Lucid Dreams‘ brings us the perfect snaps and awakens us to a realization to not loose ourselves and to truly love who we are. ‘
Borderline‘ reveals her vulnerability in a relationship, and how she’s on the edge, she sings, “I’m the most jealous girl in the whole wide world/ Don’t you ever hurt me I’ll change on you/ I will do, me and you…”
Brandy chose the number 7 well, which represents completion, perfection, and healing. “I bare it all on this album,” she says. “I really don’t hold back anything.” She stated when speaking about the album. “Because this was such a personal project for me, I wanted to make sure the music was right and the best for me—and it took a minute,” she says. “I was trying to find my sound … and get to a place where I could express myself as honestly as I could creatively.”
This 8-year gap was well worth the wait and there’s even a brilliant feature from her daughter Sy’rai on the catchy track, ‘High Heels‘. Brandy even shows the rap skills we never knew she had, and it gives you chills. Brandy also speaks of who she sided up with on ‘b7‘, “When I teamed up with DJ Camper, it seemed like the perfect fit. His tracks were so different, but still connected to me in a way where it didn’t feel so different from what I’ve done. It was almost like a continuation. When I would hear his music it was like, ‘This is what ‘Never Say Never’ would sound like in the future…’” she says.
This album is a true gift and we cannot wait to sing this in the shower. Listeners can feel the relief building up with every track and although the album is filled with heartache, Brandy shows us the bright side and the feeling of completion, she’s had once she let all of this out. This is what rhythm and blues music should sound like. Thank you Brandy for another masterpiece.
