- Universal Music Completes Acquisition of Nashville’s House of Blues Studios
Universal Music Group has purchased the celebrated House of Blues Studios for a reported $4.3 million.
“UMG has acquired the House of Blues Studio in Berry Hill with the intention to modernize the space, while remaining respectful of its legendary and iconic status in Nashville’s music scene,” said a UMG rep.
The list of musicians who have recorded in this famous space include Kacey Musgraves, Cat Stevens, and Robert Plant. (Read More)
2. Warner Bros. Records Taps Aishah White and Yashar Zadeh to Support Media & Communications Team
Warner Bros. Records have added two new members to their strategic development team: Aishah White as senior vice president and Yashar Zadeh as vice president. They will report to Laura Swanson, EVP of Media & Strategic Development.
Before joining the company, White founded AKW PR and built media campaigns for Ty Dolla $ign and Lil Pump. Zadeh worked at Biz 3 Publicity and managed campaigns for G-Eazy, Migos, and City Girls. (Read More)
3. SiriusXM Finished 2018 With 34M Paid Subscribers
SiriusXM Holdings added 1.3 million net subscribers in 2018 alone, contributing to a grand total of 34 million paid subscribers to round out the year.
In September 2018, the company acquired Pandora in an all-stock transaction valued at almost $3.5B. The buyout was granted approval in Europe in November and is predicted to close by the end of Q119.

4. Mitch Glazier Becomes Chairman and CEO of RIAA
Mitch Glazier has officially become the Chairman and CEO of the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). He is replacing Cary Sherman, who retired after serving in the role for decades.
“[Music] makes us who we are and binds diverse communities together,” said Glazier. “I am honored to lead the RIAA during these exciting times as we fight for a music ecosystem that work for everybody — from artists and fans to labels and publishers and songwriters and music services alike.” (Read More)
5. Island Records Appoints Ayelet Schiffman to SVP, Head of Promotion
Ayelet Schiffman has been named SVP, Head of Promotion by Island Records. She will report directly to COO Eric Wong.
She previously worked at Sony Music for 24 years. Her most recent position was Senior Vice President of Rhythm and Dance Promotion at Columbia Records, where she supported artists such as Beyoncé,John Legend and Adele.
“Ayelet has shown that she possesses an intuitive and strategic approach to radio and it is crystal clear she will make a significant impact at Island,” said Island president Darcus Beese. (Read More)
